Arbutus trees , also known as Madrone.

Grow on North Americas west coast from Northern California into British Columbia´s south west coast.

The tree is evergreen but sheds some of its leaves all year. Also sheds its bark.

The wood is very dense and is fire resistant.

In the right conditions is a fast growing tree.

The berries are edible and the bark medicinal , used by the First Nations.
